Dr.
Paul W. Mayberry serves as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense
for Readiness. He is the focal point on all issues and activities
related to the readiness and training of U.S. armed forces.
Dr. Mayberry develops and oversees policies and programs to
ensure U.S. forces stand ready for all missions as assigned
by the President and the Secretary of Defense. He is leading
major DoD-wide initiatives that include the development of
a real-time readiness reporting system, a transformed training
environment for joint forces, sustainable military training
ranges, and the implementation of the Secretary of Defense's
50% mishap reduction goal. Dr. Mayberry's portfolio also includes
the management of several senior level DoD policy forums,
including the Senior Readiness Oversight Council, and collaborative
partnerships within the public and private sectors on training
considerations in context of the National Environmental Policy
Act.
Previously, Dr. Mayberry served in several key executive roles throughout the Department of Defense. Most recently, he was the Executive Director for the Secretary of Defense's review of military morale and quality of life. He also served as the special assistant to the Under Secretary of the Army contributing to the development and implementation of the Army's transformation vision and strategy. Dr. Mayberry was the Director of Manpower and Training in the Department of the Navy overseeing the policies and programs for the Navy and Marine Corps recruiting efforts. Prior to these assignments, Dr. Mayberry had a distinguished career with the Center for Naval Analyses in which his research efforts focused on force readiness issues. He also completed two field tours as an operations analyst with the Naval and Marine forces in the Pacific Fleet.
Dr. Mayberry holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and both a master's degree and doctorate in quantitative psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. |
