I agree about attendance. I have the same problem is my classes. As a rule
men in other countries ( I know there are exceptions, especially in the
Philippines)  are the "bread-winners".Thus they tend to  look for and  find
jobs more often than women also because they have worked more often in the
past than women, thus have experience.  I have questioned my students when
they returned after long absences.The men said they had been working. The
women replied that they had been out sick or taking care of family members
who were.
