HIV/AIDS information services for health promotion and education of the HIV infected woman.

Bates R; HIV Infection in Women Conference.

Program Abstr HIV Infect Women Conf HIV Infect Women Conf 1995 Wash DC. 1995 Feb 22-24; P114.

CDC National AIDS Clearinghouse, Rockville, MD.

HIV/AIDS information services are excellent health education and prevention tools. They help to save lives, promote patient/provider education, facilitate peer support, improve patient decision making, and promote behavioral change. Individually tailored HIV/AIDS prevention materials have been shown to be more effective than non-tailored materials in helping individuals change behavior. A resource room is the ideal location to promote health education and information services for HIV infected women. In this setting, health care providers will have hands-on learning experiences with key HIV/AIDS information services available for women. Participants will also have the opportunity to view HIV/AIDS educational videos targeting women during the entire conference. Training will highlight information resources available for the HIV infected women, such as: clinical trials, treatment information, support groups, social services, testing and counseling sites, and so forth. We will teach participants how to access the information needed to do innovative and successful work in their communities.
