EDITORS AND CORRESPONDENTS

The Federal Highway Administration has now published implementation guidelines for motor carriers in setting up drug and alcohol testing programs.

It is strongly urged that carriers obtain these guidelines, which are written as if a carrier has no controlled substances and/or alcohol testing program already in place.

Providing a logical sequence for implementing the various elements of a program, the guidelines contain examples of documents, checklists, forms and procedures carriers may use in formulating their individual programs.

The guidelines and Implementation Guidelines for Alcohol and Drug Regulations in Highway Transportation (order No. PB 96-197926) may be purchased from the National Technical Information Service, 5285 Port Royal Road, Springfield, Virginia 22161 (telephone 703-487-4650). Hard copies are $49, microfiche $19.50.

Sincerely yours,

George L. Reagle
Associate Administrator for Motor Carriers
