Market Studies

Federal market assessments show the opportunities for expanded use of DER and CHP systems.

Facility managers might need some questions answered before choosing distributed energy resources (DER) and combined heat and power (CHP). For example, how much capacity is potentially available nationwide? Is it significant? Where and in which agencies is it concentrated? What are the economics involved? What difference does a technology make? What types of buildings are most suitable?

FEMP completed two market studies in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to answer these questions. One study is a broad overview of DER potential, focusing on near-term potential in states with the most federal facilities. The other study focuses solely on CHP systems and how federal facilities across the country can benefit.
