Periodontal Consultant, IHS
Dr. Todd Smith is the Indian Health Service National Clinical Consultant of Periodontics, which involves treatment of the gums and bone surrounding the teeth. He is particularly interested in sharing information with medical providers on the relationship between poor oral health and systemic illnesses such as cardiovascualr disease, diabetes mellitus, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. About Todd Smith
Dr. Smith is a Commissioned Officer who has been with the Indian Health Service since 1979. He became Board Certified in Periodontics in 1999. He has received the IHS National Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry and the Commendation and Outstanding Service Medals. Though he spends most of his time providing clinical care in periodontics, he also enjoys providing training in the field and teaching throughout the Phoenix Area and the IHS. Dr. Smith and his wife Lonni love the outdoors, music, fitness training, and their 2 kids, not necessarily in that order.

Dr. Smith has been a staff dentist in St. Francis, SD, dental program chief in Rosebud, SD, Keams Canyon, AZ, and Sacaton, AZ, Area Periodontal Consultant in the Oklahoma and Phoenix Areas, and currently the IHS National Consultant stationed at Phoenix Indian Medical Center.
