Typhoon Saola
In late September 2005, Typhoon Saola built up strength north of the Mariana Islands and headed toward southern Japan. On September 23, forecasters were predicting that Saola would become a powerful storm that would graze the island of Honshu before heading out to the mid-Pacific.
