Rome,
1691. Copperplate engraving. National Library of Medicine
Bernardino
Genga
(1636?-1734?)
[anatomist]
Charles
Errard
(1609?-1689)
[artist]
The association between death and anatomy continued in art anatomy,
even as it waned in medical texts. Genga, a Roman anatomist, specialized
in studies of classical sculptures. Errard, court painter to Louis
XIV, helped found the Académie Royale de Peinture and was
first Director of the Académie de France in Rome.
