Historical Anatomies

The National Library of Medicine's resources for historical scholarship in medicine and related sciences are among the richest of any institution in the world. Collected over many years, the material in the History of Medicine Division provides researchers with sources both rare in availability and exhaustive in scope.

Historical Anatomies on the Web is a digital project designed to give Internet users access to high quality images from important anatomical atlases in the Library's collection. Here you can see other images from some of the books showcased in the Dream Anatomy exhibition as well as images from other important books in the collection. Images are selected primarily for their historical and artistic significance, with priority placed upon the earliest and/or the best edition of a work in NLM's possession.
