JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is announcing a new partnership with the Haskell Co. and the University of South Florida Consultation Program to increase the safety and health of employees involved in the construction of the University of North Florida Osprey Fountains Student Housing Project in Jacksonville. A key goal of the alliance is to increase the number of employers and employees in North Florida with effective safety and health knowledge that they can carry with them to future worksites. In addition, the agreement requires that participating employers adequately train non-English speaking employees. News media are encouraged to cover the event.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to promote the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
