Wilmot Hasting was nominated by President Nixon to serve as General Counsel of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in 1970.
Immediately prior to taking his post at the Department, Mr. Hastings was Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State and prior to that he was appointed by Elliot L. Richardson to Deputy Attorney General of Massachusetts. From 1961 to 1963, Hastings was law clerk for Mr. Chief Justice Raymond S.Wilkins of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. From 1962 to 1968 he was associated with the Boston law firm of Bingham, Dana and Gould in the general practice of law.
He is admitted to practice before Massachusetts courts, the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts; the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Tax Court of the United States. While in Massachusetts, he was a member of the Boston, Massachusetts and American Bar Associations. Hastings was also active in various municipal affairs in the city of Cambridge, including Director Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of the Cambridge Civic Association.
He returned to private law practice in 1973 and is now a partner in the firm of Bingham, Dana & Gould of Boston.
