Average annual rate of intimate partner violence for males and females by marital status, 2001-2005

Female victims who were separated had the highest rate of nonfatal intimate partner violence at 40.7. Widowed female victims had the lowest rate at 0.5, followed by victims who were married at 1.2.

Male victims who were separated had the highest rate of nonfatal intimate partner violence at 12.8, followed by divorced male victims at 2.6 and victims who were never married at 1.0. Widowed males had the lowest rate at 0.2, along with victims who were married at 0.3.
