Grand Canyon National Park
Junior Ranger Dynamic Earth/Adventure Hike

Junior Rangers learning about the power of water
Grand Canyon serves as a grand classroom for Junior Rangers.

During the summer months, we offer the Junior Ranger Adventure Hike (ages 9-14). Join a ranger on the challenging South Kaibab Trail and experience Grand Canyon below the rim. This 1.8 mile (2.9-km) round-trip hike is strenuous, so bring water, sunscreen and wear good hiking shoes!
The Junior Ranger Adventure Hike Program is only offered during the summer months, between June 8 and August 16. This program is only offered on Sundays, Mondays , Wednesdays and Fridays.
Meet the ranger at the South Kaibab Trailhead at 8am. To arrive on time for this program, catch the free South Kaibab Trail shuttle bus at the visitor center by 7:30am. Upon completion of the 2.5-hour program, participants are eligible to purchase a Junior Ranger Adventure Hike patch. Completion of this program also satisfies the requirement of attending one ranger program for the Junior Ranger Activity Booklet and earning a Grand Canyon Junior Ranger Badge.
The strenuous hike is not recommended for people with heart/breathing problems, walking difficulty, or fear of heights.

GRAND CANYON'S DESERT VIEW WATCHTOWER

Did You Know?
Building a structure that provides the widest possible view of the Grand Canyon yet harmonizes with its setting was architect Mary Colter's goal when the Santa Fe Railroad hired her in 1930 to design a gift shop and rest area at Desert View Point. The Watchtower opened in May of 1933.
