King County's rural stewardship includes the latest in high-tech mapping services, water quality monitoring, drainage programs and enforcement, grants for small environmental projects, an illegal dumping hotline and assistance in battling noxious weeds.
The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks also offers many services to rural residents, including maintaining a number of regional parks and trails, while solid waste and wastewater treatment programs are safeguarding the environment while turning waste into resources.
Also available to rural residents is the Greenprint strategy, which uses geographic information systems tools to help King County identify land conservation options that provide the greatest public benefits.
King County's floodplain management program has been recognized as the best in the nation, and results in a savings of 35 percent for flood insurance policy holders.
