Resources > Eagle Book Series
Introduction
The IHS Head Start Program, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Native Diabetes Wellness Program, is pleased to offer you the newly published Eagle Book series. The four books are beautifully written and illustrated promoting healthy behaviors for AI-AN children.
Many of our families and communities struggle with serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. Children develop their health behaviors very early in life. The Eagle Book series focus on the development of these behaviors for children such as healthy eating and physical activity. Although the books are designed for older children (approximately third grade), it is our hope they can be adapted to the Head Start classroom.
The Eagle Book kit includes:
- Eagle Book series: "Through the Eyes of the Eagle"; "Knees Lifted High"; "Plate Full of Color"; and ""Tricky Treats" (This may be a great addition to your Halloween activities!)
- One set of puppets representing the three main characters.
- Educator's Guide (2.2mb, pdf file)
We encourage you to read the books to the children using the finger puppets or doing other activities as described in the Educator's Guide on pages 5-6, specifically written for Head Start programs.
