• Check out the Defenders of Clearview School—MACMH's new interactive anti-bullying web-based curriculum for K-6. In addition to addressing the difference between hurtful and fun, silly teasing, the curriculum also addresses how to distinguish between tattling and reporting, using your words when facing a bully, making safe choices, and responding to different types of bullies. GO DEFENDERS!

• For parents, teachers, and caregivers, the start of the school year is often exciting, but it can be difficult for kids of all ages.  Peer pressure, bullying, and social anxieties can take their toll on kids in hallways and classrooms. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Family Guide website has great "Back to School" resources—everything from helping with homework to dealing with the back-to-school blues is covered.  Family Guide: Back to School

• The National Deaf Academy, established in 2000 by Dr. Alan Cohen, provides residential psychiatric care for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and autistic children and adults. Located in Mount Dora, Florida, NDA serves children, adolescents, and adults throughout the United States. For more information go to www.nda.com

• Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis will stage Distracted, a controversial comedy by Lisa Loomer’s that is centered around a mother who finds herself with a new “job” seeking answers for her nine-year-old son who has been diagnosed with Attention- Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD).
