Description

The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities provides information to the nation on disabilities in children and youth; programs and services for infants, children, and youth with disabilities; IDEA, the nation's special education law; No Child Left Behind, the nation's general education law; and research-based information on effective practices for children with disabilities. Anyone can use their services—families, educators, administrators, journalists, students. Their special focus is children and youth (birth to age 22).

NICHCY develops and distributes fact sheets on the following: specific disabilities, parent support groups, general information for parents, vocational/transitional issues, special education, legal rights and advocacy, and information on public advocacy. NICHCY publishes issues and briefing papers on current, relevant topics in the special education and disabilities field. Also distributes information (pamphlets, booklets, and fact sheets) regarding pertinent disability issues obtained from other sources. NICHCY maintains information on parents groups and private and public agencies/organizations on the local, state and national level for networking and referral purposes.
