Entrance Fees and Recreational Passes

Entrance Fees

Admission to Grand Canyon National Park is for seven days and includes both the North Rim and South Rim. No refunds are given due to inclement weather. 

Grand Canyon National Park Vehicle Permit- $25.00
Admits one single, private, non-commercial vehicle and all its passengers. Organized groups are not eligible for the vehicle permit.

Grand Canyon National Park Individual Permit - $12.00/person
Admits one individual when entering by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or non-commercial group. Individuals 15 years old and younger are admitted free of charge.

Grand Canyon National Park Individual Permit - $12.00/person
Organized Non-Commercial Group - This fee only applies to organized non-commercial groups. (service organizations, scouts, church groups, college/school clubs) Non-commercial groups entering the park in a bus or vehicle with a capacity of 15 persons or more, will be charged $12 for each person on board.

Exceptions:
• Anyone who is 15 or younger is exempt from paying an entrance fee.
• Passes may be used for entry as defined on the back of the pass.
• In many cases the driver will have been hired for transportation only and is exempt from paying the entrance fee.
• The total fee charged will not exceed the equivalent commercial fee for that type vehicle.

Grand Canyon National Park Annual Pass - $50.00
Valid for twelve months from the date of purchase, for unlimited visits to Grand Canyon National Park. It admits the purchaser and any accompanying persons in a single, private, non-commercial vehicle, or the purchaser and accompanying immediate family (spouse, children, parents) when entry is by other means (train, shuttle, bicycle, and foot). This passport covers entrance fees only and is not refundable and/or transferable. Purchase at the park entrance station.

America the Beautiful - 2008 Annual Pass - Cost $80.
National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass
This pass is available to the general public and provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity Fee for a year, beginning from the date of sale.


Replaces: Golden Eagle Passport and National Parks Pass and Golden Eagle Hologram.
The pass admits the pass holder/s and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas. (children under 16 are admitted free) The pass can be obtained in person at the park, by calling 1-888-ASK USGS, Ext. 1, or via the Internet at http://store.usgs.gov/pass.

National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass
This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity.


Replaces: Golden Age Passport - May be exchanged free of charge.
The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the park. The Senior Pass provides a 50 percent discount on some Expanded Amenity Fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launch, and specialized interpretive services. In some cases where Expanded Amenity Fees are charged, only the pass holder will be given the 50 percent price reduction. The pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires.

America the Beautiful – Access Pass - Free.
National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass
This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity.


Replaces: Golden Access Passport - May be exchanged free of charge.
Documentation is required to obtain the pass. Acceptable documentation includes: statement by a licensed physician; document issued by a Federal agency such as the Veteran’s Administration, Social Security Disability Income or Supplemental Security Income; or document issued by a State agency such as a vocational rehabilitation agency. The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the park. The Access Pass provides a 50 percent discount on some Expanded Amenity Fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services. In some cases where Expanded Amenity Fees are charged, only the pass holder will be given the 50 percent price reduction. National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass
This pass is for volunteers acquiring 500 service hours on a cumulative basis. It provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity Fee for a year, beginning from the date of award.


The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). 
 

What Happened to the "Golden" and National Parks Passes ?

The Following National Park Passes Were Replaced during 2007:

By the new America the Beautiful - National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Passes

All National Parks Passes, Golden Eagle, Golden Eagle Hologram, Golden Access and Golden Age Passports were honored in 2007 according to the provisions of the pass. Only paper Golden Age and Access Passports may be exchanged free of charge for the new plastic passes.

The National Park Service is an important participant in the new Interagency Pass Program which was created by the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act and authorized by Congress in December 2004. Participating agencies include the National Park Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture - Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation. The pass series, collectively known as the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, is shown below with a brief explanation of each.
The new passes first went  on sale January 1, 2007.


 

Grand Canyon National Park Commercial Tour Fee

Based on vehicle capacity for all tour groups and bus companies that originate outside a 100 mile radius of an entrance station for Grand Canyon National Park.Taxis are classified as commercial tours as they do not have regularly scheduled service.

Vehicles with capacity of 1-25: will be charged a Flat Fee of $8.00 per person. Holders of Golden Eagle, Golden Age, Golden Access, Grand Canyon Park Passes, America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes, and those age 15 and under will be exempt from payment of fees.

Vehicles with capacity of 26 or greater will be charged a flat fee of $300.00. No Golden Eagle, Golden Age, Golden Access, Grand Canyon Park Passes, or America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes, will be accepted and no exemptions for age.

Regional Shuttle Service is defined as service organizations within a 100 mile radius of an entrance station for Grand Canyon National Park. All vehicles will be charged a flat fee of $8.00 per person, regardless of vehicle size. All Golden Eagle, Golden Age, Golden Access, Grand Canyon Park Passes, America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes, and those age 15 and under will be exempt from payment of fees.

Local transit is designated as having regularly scheduled transit service originating within a 100 mile radius of an entrance station for Grand Canyon National Park. All vehicles will be charged a flat fee of $6.00 per person, regardless of vehicle size. All Golden Eagle, Golden Age, Golden Access, Grand Canyon Park Passes, America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes, and those age 15 and under will be exempt from payment of fees.

No per person fees are charged as long as passengers are traveling with the original commercial vehicle. Tour passengers who re-enter the park by other means are subject to per person fees. Entrance Fees are NOT refundable and/or transferable. The permit is valid for up to 7 days for the same tour group only. A Commercial Use Authorization is required for any commercial tour company, regional shuttle service company, or local transit company that enters the park.

The more recent Kaibab limestone caprock, on the rims of the Grand Canyon, formed 270 million years ago. In contrast, the oldest rocks within the Inner Gorge at the bottom of Grand Canyon date to 1.84 billion years ago. Geologists currently set the age of Earth at 4.5 billion years.
