Oscar Schofield is an Associate Professor at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. He works in Aquatic Biology at the Coastal Ocean Observation Lab, Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers. His research is centered on Environmental Regulation of Primary Productivity in Aquatic Ecosystems, Physiological Ecology of Phytoplankton, Hydrological Optics, and the Development of Integrated Ocean Observatories.

Schofield received his Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 1987. In 1993, he earned a Ph.D. in Biology also from UCSB. In 1994, he served as a postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Remote Sensing and Environmental Optics, UCSB. From 1994-1995 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Southern Regional Research Center, Agriculture Research Service. For six years, from 1995-2001 he was an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Science (IMCS), Rutgers University. Since 2001, he has been an Associate Professor at IMCS, Rutgers.

Schofield has received numerous honors throughout his career. Some recent highlights include being an invited participant for the National Academy of Sciences and Japan Science & Technology Corporation (JAMSTEC) at the Japanese-American Frontiers of Science Symposium (1999), being an authorized data user and real-time site license for the SeaWiFS Project (1998-Present), and receiving the Rutgers University Faculty Academic Service Increment Program (FASIP) Award (1998-2003).
