How to Access PDF Documents

Some Social Security forms publications depend for their comprehension and visual impact on reproduction as they appear in their printed format. Many of our forms are machine-read and also depend on accurate reproduction. In order to make these documents and forms available to the widest audience, SSA uses the Portable Document Format (PDF), developed by Adobe. PDF files are printer independent and can easily print a duplicate of the original publication using any graphics printer (i.e., laser, inkjet, dot-matrix or plotter).

In order to view or print these files in the PDF format, you will need Adobe's reader. You will need to download and install the free Reader on your computer. This link will take you to the Adobe.com Web site so you may download the Acrobat Reader. You may wish to review Adobe.com privacy notice since their information collection practices may differ from ours. In addition, our linking to this site does not constitute an endorsement of any products, services or the information found on the Adobe.com Web site.

PDF files are printer independent using any printer. If you are using the software to view SSA forms, the form should be printed on 8 1/2" x 11" white paper. You must print the form with blue or black ink to be acceptable to SSA.

If you need further information, Customer Support is available at Adobe's web site.

Please do not contact the Social Security Administration for problems or questions concerning the Adobe Reader software.
