SeaWiFS: South African Dust

On May 13, 2001, SeaWiFS viewed dust blowing out of Namibia and Angola in a pattern that seems to be the norm for dust storms in this area - namely, many individual jets of dust-laden air spread out along the coastline. Also, if you look carefully, you will see a straight line transition from greener to less green land that marks the border between Angola and Namibia. Different land-use policies in the two countries account for the difference in color.

Multicolored pixels, especially in the northern part of the image, are caused by imperfect reception of the satellite transmission at the ground station.
