Labor Department Invites Applications For Grants To Enhance
Opportunities For People With Disabilities
WASHINGTON The U. S. Department of Labor today announced
the availability of $6 million in grants to enhance employment opportunities
for adults and youth with disabilities. The grants will be administered and
funded through the Office of Disability Employment Policy.
Grant opportunities are available in two areas: Customized Employment,
and Innovative Demonstration Grants for Youth with Disabilities.
Up to seven competitive grants, totaling $3.5 million, will be awarded
for strategic planning and implementation activities designed to enhance the
availability and provision of customized employment services to people with
disabilities through the One-Stop delivery system.
Up to five competitive grants, totaling $2.5 million dollars will be
awarded to fund model demonstration programs designed to enhance the capacity
of youth programs working in coordination with the Workforce Investment Act to
serve youth with disabilities.
These grants will support the Presidents New Freedom Initiative,
which is designed to increase the number of people with disabilities who enter,
reenter and remain in the workforce. This initiative is dedicated to increasing
investment in and access to assistive technologies, quality education, and
increasing the integration of Americans with disabilities into the workforce
and community life.
Complete information about each grant solicitation, including entities
eligible to apply, the application process, application form and deadlines, can
