MBA Fellows Program
Employment Opportunity

The Department of Labor (DOL) MBA Fellows Program is designed to attract outstanding individuals with business skills acquired either through graduate education and/or related equivalent experience who can implement a business approach to managing projects in the Department of Labor. Such skills include quantitative and analytical thinking, strategic planning, project management, leveraging technology, and tying organizational goals to performance results.

Candidates selected will be appointed to a two-year program. Those individuals successfully completing this formal training and development program, and meeting all requirements, may be converted to a competitive permanent Federal position. This program will provide an opportunity to learn about the Department of Labor’s mission and organizations. Individuals employed under this program will be hired at the entry GS-9 grade level (upper $40s) with a target of a GS-12 grade level (upper $60s) upon program completion.

Rotational assignments are a key component of this program. Assignments may be in areas such as budgeting, program analysis, investigation, compliance assistance, financial management, human resources, and information technology in DOL’s national and regional program offices. Responsibilities will include activities such as developing organizational studies and analysis, project management, proposing new processes for maximum resource utilization, and assisting in annual fiscal planning.

This opportunity is located in Washington, DC.

2.

MBA Fellows are required to participate in one 90-day rotational assignment outside of the Washington, DC metropolitan area at one of DOL's Regional Offices.

Relocation expenses:
Relocation expenses to Washington, DC will not be paid

The key competencies for the Fellows Program are:

  • Planning and Evaluation
  • Research and Analysis
  • Teamwork
  • Written and Verbal Communications
  • Project Management

Application Process
Your application will consist of up to three components measuring the key competencies. These competencies will be assessed based on all or a combination of the following:

    1.

Online resume and screening questions

  2.

Online assessment exercise

 3.

Structured interview

Other application materials may be requested at a later date prior to an interview (e.g. college/university transcripts).


Requirements:
In order to be considered, you must have either:

1.

a Masters or equivalent graduate degree;

2.

two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or

3.

experience that has equipped you with the following competencies at a level to successfully perform the duties of the position.

AND

Work experience directly related to business policies, practices, and/or applications. The following are examples of qualifying types of business experience:

  • analytical experience in financial management, program analysis, or process improvement
  • project management experience
  • business consulting experience

A Masters in Business Administration degree from an accredited business school is desirable.

You must be a U.S. citizen at the time of your appointment.

Basis of Rating:
Applicants will be rated based on the application materials submitted and responses to the online assessments. Errors or omissions may affect your score. If a determination is made that you have rated yourself higher than is apparent in your description of experience and/or education, your score will be adjusted accordingly.
