Just a few days shy of the first day of summer, and still the Alps that tower over northern Italy are holding on to snow. To the south, in the Mediterranean Sea, sun is glinting off the waters east of Corsica (top) and Sardinia (bottom). At bottom right, the top of Italy's western-pointing boot meets the tip of the island of Sicily. The large body of water northeast of Italy is the Adriatic Sea.
