I'd like to repeat the plug for the ProLiteracy Conference, mainly because the focus in ESL is usually on TESOL and state TESOL organizations. ProLit is the national organization for volunteer- and community-based organizations, and has featured many workshops on ESL topics in the past. This year's ProLit Conference is in November in Washington D.C.

In line with the plug for conferences that also target volunteer- and community-based organizations and teachers, I'll mention my organization's Annual State Conference. California Literacy is hosting our 38th Annual State Conference in Pasadena from October 1-4, 2003. We have over 70 workshops each year, including 15-20 specifically targetted to ESL professionals.

Peace,
Matthew Scelza

Judy -
Perhaps you would want to include the ProLiteracy National Conference in
your list. ProLiteracy is the organization that was formed with the merger
of Literacy Volunteers of America and Laubach Literacy. I don't know much
about the 2003 conference, but I know that the 2002 conference was held in
San Diego, CA in May. You could probably find out more information about the
upcoming yearly conference on the ProLiteracy website at
www.proliteracy.org.
Hope that helps!!
