This true-color Terra Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea was acquired August 26th, 2002. The instrument detected a thermal signature, marked in red, on one of the northern islands, called Montserrat. This is likely heat from the Soufriere Hills volcano, which has been in a near constant state of eruption for many months. Starting from the north, the islands are Anguilla (upper left, slightly obscured by clouds), Barbuda, St. Kitts (to the left of Barbuda, slightly obscured by clouds), Nevis (just below St. Kitts), Antigua, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Marie-Galante, Dominica, and Martinique.
