| J. Albert Diggs, Jr., is the Director of the Equal Opportunity Program Office at the John F. Kennedy Space Center.
In this position, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of the NASA Equal Opportunity Program at the center, including support of equal employment practices for all employees and equal consideration for all applicants for employment. He is responsible for providing professional advice to center management on policy matters relating to equal employment opportunities. Additionally, he is responsible for administering the agency’s complaint processing system.
Diggs was born in Bessemer, Alabama. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, after which he matriculated at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He received the Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish and English from Southern in 1962. He received the M.S. Degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma in 1977.
Diggs began his professional career as a classroom teacher at Stone School in Melbourne, FL, where he taught Spanish and English for four years. He spent four additional years at the Brevard County Community Action Agency in Cocoa, FL, serving initially as Deputy Director and subsequently as Executive Director. His government career was begun as a Field Representative with the Regional Office of the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity in Atlanta. From Atlanta, he served the States of Alabama and Mississippi. He joined NASA in 1973 as an Equal Opportunity Specialist.
Diggs is a member of the Brevard County Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the North Brevard NAACP, the Brevard County Equal Opportunity Committee, and the Southern University Alumni Federation. He serves on the Boards of Directors for Circles of Care, the Brevard County Child Care Association, and the KSC Federal Credit Union.
Diggs has received numerous awards for his civic and professional involvement. Such awards include the State of Florida "Man of the Year" award from the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in 1982, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1983 and 1994, and the Kennedy Space Center Director’s Award in 1984.
He is married to the former Barbara Larvadain of Belle Rose, LA. They reside in Titusville and have three sons.
