Ads promoting King County's simple solutions to common barriers for recycling have received national recognition for effectively conveying the county's messages.

Oct. 29: MLK logo wins national award
King County's new logo depicting an original image of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded first place nationally with a Savvy Award from the nation's leading organization for improving local government communication with constituents.

Oct. 5: King County maintains exceptional 'AAA' bond rating
The nation's top bond rating agencies have reaffirmed their AAA rating for King County as it prepares to issue bonds and bond anticipation notes to finance capital projects such as integrated security and health projects in the downtown Seattle jail.

Sept. 28: Sims pleased with best-in-nation flood honor, but 'won't rest easy' until aging levees are repaired
While record rain and floods last winter are still fresh memories, King County's flood plan and flood management programs were named among the best-in-the-nation today by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

King County's Wastewater Treatment Division has earned two national awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies for outstanding compliance with its state and federal permit requirements.

May 20: King County performance reporting wins national awards, honored by King County Council
Today the King County Council recognized County Executive Ron Sims and the Executive Branch for recent accomplishments in performance measurement designed to ensure that King County residents receive the best services available.

May 1: Sims honored by EPA for climate change leadership
King County Executive Ron Sims and actor/environmental leader Robert Redford are among six individuals honored today by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with its 2007 Climate Protection Award. Sims was the keynote speaker at the banquet that included awards to corporations, government agencies and other organizations from across the nation and around the world who have done outstanding work to reduce climate change.

April 25: New law enforcement software in use in King County named finalist for 2007 intergovernmental solutions awards
Groundbreaking law enforcement software has earned King and Yakima counties top honors from the American Council for Technology (ACT), a national committee of government and industry IT professionals. The software is a finalist for the 2007 ACT Intergovernmental Solutions Awards. It allows police officers to use a single program to search local and state criminal and court information on inmates.

A statewide pilot program initiated by King County that links car insurance rates to the number of miles driven has won a $1.9 million federal grant. Unigard Insurance and the Washington State Department of Transportation are partners in the five-year program that for the first time will collect comprehensive data about driver behavior when insurance rates are based on actual vehicle usage.

Academic achievements of more than 600 student athletes ranging from kindergarteners to sophomores in high school will be honored for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing field at the 20th annual Paul Robeson Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Governing Magazine's November issue profiles King County Executive Ron Sims saying Sims ‘produces better results than almost anyone in American local government.' Sims will be given one of Governing's prestigious Public Official of the Year awards in Wa.

Sept. 12: King County wins "Best of Web" award- King County
The Center for Digital Government has named King County's website www.metrokc.gov one of the top five Best of Web county portals in 2006 as part of its Digital Government Achievement Awards.

Aug. 8: King County wins national honors for creative and innovative programs
King County's campaigns to improve employee health, bring sustainably produced items to the marketplace and promote natural yard care have been recognized by the National Association of Counties as among the best in the nation.

July 21: Sims and Nickels share national environmental award- King County
The Sierra Club broke tradition and gave its national leadership in government award to King County Executive Ron Sims.

Transportation

July 18: Safety and skills emphasized at transportation 'roadeos'
With steady hands and nerves of steel, veteran and novice road warriors gathered in Renton and Tukwila this past weekend for two separate contests to determine which King County Department of Transportation (KCDOT) employees have the best on-the-job driver.

March 6: Brightwater project manager earns national honors as 2006 Local Official of the Year- King County
Recognizing that an economically vibrant building industry depends on wastewater infrastructure, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) selected Brightwater project manager Christie True as Local Official of the Year for 2006.

Oct. 12: Public invited to celebrate more than 40 years of clean water
Ever wonder what happens to water when you brush or flush? How does wastewater produce resources like natural gas, electricity, and water for irrigation and industry?

July 18: Sims to tap into water quality, supply issues at national conference in Seattle on July 19
