NEMPAC is a critical advocacy tool to amplify the voice of emergency physicians and our patients in the federal election process.

2008 is a pivotal election year.  Legislators will be gauging the needs of their constituents and will be looking for the hot-button issues that can make or break a campaign.  Health care promises to be at the top of the list.

NEMPAC Goals for the 2008 Elections

  • Raise $1 million annually ($2 million for the election cycle) to support the campaigns of federal candidates who share our commitment to emergency medicine.  As of July 2008, NEMPAC raised $1,430,122 toward our goal for cycle.
  • Become the top physician specialty PAC participating in and influencing the 2008 elections

How We Can Reach These Goals

  • Increase the percentage of ACEP members who contribute annually to NEMPAC - nearly one-third of ACEP members contributed in 2007.
  • Increase the average contribution of each NEMPAC contributor
    - the average donation to NEMPAC in 2007 was less than $150
  • Encourage more ACEP members to "Give-a-Shift" ($1000 or more per year)
    - 182 ACEP Members were "Give-a-Shift" Donors in 2007
  • Involve more ACEP members in national and local advocacy efforts including NEMPAC contribution deliveries, hosting emergency department visits for legislators and regular communications with federal legislators.
