Training opportunities supported under this announcement by the NIEHS are expected to focus on the environmental health sciences and be responsive to the mission of the NIEHS, which is to reduce the burden of human illness and dysfunction from environmental causes by understanding how environmental factors, individual susceptibility and age interrelate in the disease process.  Applications should focus on a specific human disease, dysfunction, pathophysiologic condition, or relevant human biologic process and propose to study a specific environmentally relevant toxicant.

The National Institute of Nursing Research recognizes a unique and compelling need to promote diversity in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences research workforce among nursing research investigators. NINR participates in the NIH programs designed to attract and encourage eligible individuals from underrepresented populations to nursing research careers by providing a continuum of research training opportunities, from high school to faculty levels.
