          GENERATING STATION, UNIT NO. 1 (GENERIC LETTER 83-16A) 

Generic Letter 83-16, enclosed, references the "NRC Fact-Finding Task Force 
Report on the ATWS Events at Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1, on 
February 22 and 25, 1983" (NUREG-0977). For your information, we have also 
enclosed the Summary section of NUREG-0977 which provides a synopsis of the 
event and NRC actions and findings immediately following the event. Further 
details are available in the report. Copies of this report are available for
inspection at the Local Public Document Rooms and at the U. S. Nuclear 
Regulatory Commission, Public Document Room, 1717 H Street, NW, Washington, 
DC 20555.
