| SUBJECT: | LOCATION OF THE NRC'S TECHNICAL TRAINING CENTER |
The Commission in its SRM associated with SECY-99-244 dated February 24, 2000, decided to retain all four current simulators and to move the Technical Training Center (TTC) from its current location in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to a location in close proximity to the NRC headquarters on a schedule consistent with the staff's proposal in Option 4 of the paper. The Commission directed the staff to take actions to implement this decision.
Subsequently, the Commission has been informed that the General Accounting Office (GAO) intends to study the merits of moving the TTC to headquarters. While the Commission believes that its decision on SECY-99-244 was appropriate and that the reasons supporting its decision to move the TTC have not changed, it has decided to delay implementing this decision until the GAO has had an opportunity to conduct an independent study of this issue.
The staff should not take any action to carry out the Commission's direction to move the TTC to headquarters until the Commission provides further direction. The Commission will delay any further action on this matter until the GAO issues its report and the Commission has had an opportunity to review its recommendations.
