RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS," was issued on December 21, 1999.

This notice was issued to all medical licensees to remind them to
carefully monitor all waste that may be contaminated with radioactive
materials. Waste mamnagement facilities are finding detectable levels of
radioactive materials in waste shipments from hospitals and other medical
facilities.

Subject: STOP WORK ORDER ISSUED FOR MOTOR OPERATED VALVE WORK

Discussion:

On December 21, 1999, the DC Cook Maintenance Manager issued a Stop Work
Order stopping refurbishment activities on motor operated valves (MOVs).
The stop work order was issued in response to questions regarding the
traceability of parts used in the valve actuators during the
refurbishment project. The licensee's engineering department is
investigating the extent of the parts control deficiencies and potential
effects of the non-traceable parts on valve actuator function.
                                                            Modification,
refurbishment, and testing of MOVs at DC Cook is one of the pacing
activities for completion of work necessary for restart of Unit 2. Motor
operated valve related work activities not associated with refurbishment,
including actuator removal and testing, are not affected by the Stop Work
Order.

Subject: STOP WORK ORDER ISSUED FOR MOTOR OPERATED VALVE WORK - UPDATE

Discussion:

On December 21, 1999, the D.C. Cook Maintenance Manager issued a Stop
Work Order stopping refurbishment activities on motor operated valves
(MOVs). The stop work order was issued in response to questions regarding
the traceability of parts used in the valve actuators during the
refurbishment project. The licensee's engineering department investigated
the extent of the parts control deficiencies and potential effects of the
non-traceable parts on valve actuator function. The licensee subsequently
determined that the problem was not as extensive as was originally
believed. The licensee determined that while control of parts is an area
needing improvement, the specific problem regarding parts traceability
was narrowed down to three lugs in a valve that had no traceability. The
licensee intends to pursue actions to prevent reoccurrence. The licensee
expects to lift the Stop Work Order by this upcoming weekend.

Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT OF DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER (DAEC) COMPANY
         CONSOLIDATION

Discussion:

On December 17, 1999, Alliant Energy announced plans to consolidate two
of its three regulated utility subsidiaries into a single operating
company. The proposal will consolidate IES Utilities, Incorporated, and
Interstate Power Company, a diversified gas and electric utility, into a
new legal entity - Interstate Power and Light Company, which will operate
under the Alliant Energy brand name, owners of Duane Arnold. This
consolidation is a step in the integration of Alliant Energy companies in
the state of Iowa.

This consolidation is subject to regulatory approval from the Iowa
Utilities Board, Minnesota Public Utility Commission, Illinois Commerce
Commission, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission. This consolidation will not affect operation of Alliant
Energy's Wisconsin-based utility, Wisconsin Power and Light.
