Subject: LASALLE UNIT 1 SHUTDOWN FOR PLANNED REFUELING OUTAGE            

Discussion:

On October 23, 1999, at 12:07 a.m. (CST), the LaSalle County Station     
operations personnel initiated a reactor shutdown in preparation for     
refueling outage 8 (RFO- 8). The generator was disconnected from the grid
on October 23 at 12:02 a.m. Major activities, in addition to refueling   
the reactor, planned during this outage include: 1) Noble Metals Chemical
Addition; 2) Modification of Jet Pumps 9 and 10 Replacing the Inlet      
Mixers; 3) 1A and 1B Reactor Recirculation Pump Seal Replacements; 4) 1B 
Reactor Recirculation Pump Suction Valve Overhaul; and 5) Condenser      
Chemical Cleaning and Eddy Current Testing.                              

Regional Action:

Resident inspectors observed portions of the plant shutdown activities   
and will inspect various outage activities.
