QUAD CITIES UNIT 2, ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE UNIT 2, AND FITZPATRICK, dated
May 5, 1999
The NRC has issued this information notice to alert addressees to the
potential for personnel errors during infrequently performed evolutions
that result in, or contribute to, events such as the inadvertent draining
of water from the reactor vessel during shutdown operations.

Subject: PALISADES SHUT DOWN FOR PLANNED MAINTENANCE OUTAGE
Discussion:
On May 7, 1999, the Palisades Nuclear Plant shut down for a planned
maintenance outage. The outage is scheduled to last 8 days and the plant
is expected to startup on May 15, 1999. The scheduled major activities
include: 1) replace the seal package on Primary Coolant Pump P-50A; 2)
repair lube oil leaks on Primary Coolant Pumps P-50B and P-50D; 3) repair
Main Condenser tube leaks; and 4) repair position indicators on the
Pressurizer Power Operated Relief Valves.
Regional Action:
The resident inspector observed selected portions of the shut down and
will follow the safety and risk significant activities during the outage.
