Subject: PLANT SHUTDOWN FOR MAIN TRANSFORMER MAINTENANCE

Discussion:

The plant completed a normal shutdown on August 27, 2000, at 4:17 p.m.
The purpose of the shutdown was to perform corrective maintenance on
bolted electrical connections located between the discharge of the main
transformer and the associated mechanical disconnects to the electrical
distribution grid. The bolted connections had shown evidence of
increasing temperatures over several months. The licensee is conducting
an investigation to determine the root cause for the elevated component
temperatures.

Regional Action:

The resident inspectors observed control room and related shutdown
activities. No problems were identified with the performance of
operators or safety-related plant equipment. The inspectors continue to
monitor plant operations and maintenance activities.
