SOURCE DOCUMENT: EN 38027 REVIEWER: REXB, V. Hodge

The valve vendor Conval reports a noncompliance involving flow
coefficients for ball check valves with the angle pattern or tee pattern
body style used in charging water riser isolation and scram discharge
riser isolation applications. The vendor learned from tests that the flow
coefficient values for both styles are less than 1.5, though procurement
documents specify higher values. In one case, scram time increased from
1.5 seconds to 2 seconds. The vendor states that it notified both the
affected domestic nuclear power plants at Oyster Creek and Nine Mile
Point Unit 1.
