About Us
The Geospatial Enterprise Office (GEO) provides GIS coordination for state agencies.
Vision
  • Multi-jurisdiction geographic information management will be more efficient and better coordinated.
  • Organizations will more fully capitalize on past and current investments in GIS.
  • Considerable redundancy and duplication in data collection, data maintenance, data storage, and system resources across and within organizations will be reduced. Simultaneously, data maintenance planning and activities will allow programs to be more effective in satisfying their mandates.
  • Complete, high-quality GIS data coverage will exist and data quality will allow all broad-based user needs and citizen expectations to be met.
  • Procedures, standards, and stewardship practices for effective maintenance of regional and local geographic data will be improved.
  • Access to data and technology will be more consistent, with less regional disparity.
  • Opportunities for leveraging outside funds will be more fully explored and realized.

Mission Statement
Lead the Pursuit of Excellence in State Government
Organization
Annual Performance Measures

The Geospatial Enterprise Office (GEO) provides GIS coordination for state agencies and is the main GIS point of contact for other agencies or organizations. It provides statewide leadership to promote GIS technology use and ensure availability of easily accessible, high quality geographic information. GEO relies on collaborative efforts between state, federal, and local governments to ensure completeness and accuracy of shared data.
What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a collection of geospatial data, technology, and people used to analyze and portray geospatial information and relationships.

Geospatial means any location or area that can be measured in space.  If the question contains a “where,” geospatial tools will probably be the best way to answer it.

Responsibilities include:
  • The development, maintenance, and hosting of Oregon's Digital Spatial Data Library
  • Communication of GIS initiatives among local, regional, state, and federal agencies
  • Assistance with coordination of GIS activities for Oregon state agencies.
A wide variety of human resource and natural resource data are available at this Web site. Many data themes are online in the spatial data library and may be accessed over the state wide area network (WAN) and the Internet.

The Oregon Geospatial Data Clearinghouse (OGDC), part of GEO that is responsible for the Digital Spatial Data Library, is a component member of the U.S. Census Bureau's State Data Center. This enables the OGDC to act as a repository for all of the U.S. Census Bureau's data for Oregon. The OGDC is also the first all-digital Earth Science Information Center (ESIC). This is a cooperative effort with the U.S. Geological Survey. As an ESIC office, the OGDC receives digital data sets, such as the 1:100,000 Digital Line Graphs (DLGs), for redistribution. As an all-digital ESIC office, we do not distribute hardcopy USGS maps, air photos, or brochures.
Programs
Spatial Data Library (SDL)
A collection of Oregon geospatial data in a common coordinate system.  The SDL is served in an export format as well as through an Internet map service (IMS).
GIS Coordination
Facilitation and promotion of standards efforts, reduction of duplication for data collection, and the promotion of GIS activities in Oregon.
GIS Communication
Facilitation of events, forums, mail lists and discussion forums.
