Assistive
Technology Projects of NIST’s Advanced Technology Program
Independent Life Style Assistant
Develop an intelligent home automation system with a sophisticated
knowledge base, situation awareness and decision-making capability
that can be easily integrated with a diverse set of sensors,
medical devices and "smart" appliances to enable elderly
and infirm users to live and function safely at home.
Development
of a Robotic Step Training Device for Teaching Individuals With Neurologic
Impairments to Walk
Build and test a robotic step-training device for re-training individuals
with neurological impairments to walk that will reduce health care
costs and demonstrate measurable outcomes.
Implantable,
Batteryless Microsensor with RF Telemetry for Chronic, Remote Monitoring
of Biologic Pressures
Develop a wireless, batteryless, microfabricated pressure sensor
that can be implanted in the body for direct monitoring of intracranial
pressure in patients with hydrocephalus and continuous monitoring
of intra-ocular pressure for glaucoma therapy.
High Reliability,
Safe, Rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery and Battery Management
System
Develop an advanced, long-lasting microminiature battery for implantable
medical devices, capable of being recharged from outside of the
body with no physical connections, enabling revolutionary treatments
for diseases ranging from Parkinson's disease to limb paralysis.
