Comprehensive Assessment & Monitoring Program (CAMP)

Program Goals

  1. To assess overall effectiveness of CVPIA habitat restoration (PDF) actions in the Central Valley of California.
  2. To assess relative effectiveness of habitat restoration methods.

CVPIA

CAMP is authorized by Section 3406(b)(16) (PDF) of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA).

Partnerships

The Service shares management of CAMP with the Bureau of Reclamation. Visit their Central Valley Project and Central Valley Project Improvement Act pages. We are the lead agency.

CAMP primarily relies on other agencies such as the California Department of Fish & Game to collect the raw data summarized in our annual reports. See our Partnerships page.

Implementation

Currently, CAMP focuses on anadromous fish species. The CAMP Implementation Plan (PDF) describes how the program will monitor anadromous fish abundance and assess the relative effectiveness of restoration methods.

To achieve the first program goal, we assess effectiveness of the restoration actions toward meeting Anadromous Fish Restoration Program (AFRP) fish production targets.

To implement the second program goal, we assess the relative effectiveness of habitat restoration categories (water management modifications, structural modifications, habitat restoration, and fish screens) toward meeting AFRP fish production targets.

The fish production targets are quantified in the AFRP's Final Restoration Plan for the Anadromous Fish Restoration Program (PDF).
