Severe Weather on March 30-31, 2007 (Pg1)

The pattern on 03/28/2007. March went out like a lion. A storm system in the Rockies (on the 28th) slowly made its way toward the region to end the month. The system was responsible for lots of severe weather and flooding in the Plains, and eventually affected Arkansas late on the 30th and into the 31st. The system dragged a cold front through the state at that time.
In the picture: The pattern on 03/28/2007 featured a weakening system over the central United States (that brought some severe weather to Arkansas the day before), and a new system ("L") in the Rockies. High pressure ("H") in the Gulf of Mexico was set to build northward ahead of the new system, with the system forced to move toward the upper Midwest.

The system had to jump a few hurdles before it arrived. Like the scenario leading up to the event on the 27th, high pressure built to the east of the system...and slowed the system down. The high also forced the system and much of its energy to go well north of the state. Even so, there was enough energy to fuel a few severe storms along and ahead of the front. The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed widespread showers and thunderstorms building from central into eastern Arkansas at 1032 am CDT on 03/31/2007. For the most part, severe weather was isolated. During the morning of the 31st, a large area of showers and thunderstorms pushed through Arkansas...with areas of heavy rain and very few warnings.

Two to four inches of rain fell across portions of southern Arkansas, with flash flooding reported. Water was over a road near Chidester (Ouachita County), and also over portions of Highway 7 around Camden (Ouachita County). At Fordyce (Dallas County), there was flooding along Highway 8. Twenty four hour rainfall through 7 am CDT on 04/01/2007.
