Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Ceremony
July 20, 2005

Remarks by Paula Marshall-Chapman
President
The Bama Companies, Inc.

Vice President Cheney, Secretary Gutierrez, members of the Baldrige family, distinguished guests, and fellow recipients,

It is my great honor to represent those who received this award, the Bama family of people who embrace the challenge to be “People Helping People Be Successful” every day.

We want to acknowledge the achievements of all of this year’s Baldrige recipients. We know that you have worked long and hard to become outstanding organizations. It is an incredible privilege to be here today with you.

I want to thank each and every one of you in the Bama family. Without your dedication to our customers, our community, and to each other, this day would not be possible.

I also want to thank our customers. Without your high expectations and steadfast partnership, we would not be here today.

Our quality journey began 20 years ago. We have gained so much from the wisdom and experience of many people along the way, especially from Dr. Deming. We have listened and read and watched – and we have learned. One of our biggest lessons learned is that you must have an unwavering resolve to make every aspect of your organization better.

Thank you for this tremendous honor and congratulations to all of you in our Bama family.
