(Kansas City, Missouri) - The Kansas City Public Library will host area newspaper reporters and an archivist from the National Archives for a discussion of the new book, Great Plains Originals: Historic Documents from America's Heartland, on Thursday, February 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Helzberg Auditorium at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th Street.

Join Kansas City Star reporter and author Brian Burnes, as well as editor Monroe Dodd, and National Archives archivist Tim Rives for a discussion of this recently published work that is packed with records about Buffalo Bill, Sitting Bull, Walt Disney, Tom Pendergast, and other notable people, places and events in the history of the Midwest. This illustrated talk will include a display of archival photos and materials published in the book - all mined from the Kansas City-based Central Plains Region facility of the National Archives and Records Administration, including the transcript of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision and a handwritten note from General George Armstrong Custer.

A wine and cheese reception prior to the talk begins at 6 p.m. Copies of Great Plains Originals will be for sale. For more information or to make a reservation, call 816-701-3407 or register online at www.kclibrary.org.
