Grasslands Land Management Plan Development

Revision Home >

The Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (Grasslands) are two of the twenty National Grasslands managed by the USDA Forest Service for the National Forest System. The Grasslands are ongoing ecosystem restoration projects spawned by the Dust Bowl period recovery efforts. They also provide forage, wildlife habitat, recreation, energy, and tangible bonds with the past. The history and the heritage of the Grasslands connect us with the uniquely rich cultures that shape these Grasslands and nearby communities. The Bankhead-Jones Farm Tenant Act, which directs the acquisition, disposal, and administration of these lands, is one of the principal laws governing the Forest Service’s administration of the Grasslands. The Grasslands include approximately 552,000 acres.
