Plan Development and Revision

In 1984 the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (PSICC) Land and Resource Management Plan was completed. Since then, the environment, our understanding of how to care for the land, scientific research, and people's needs have changed. For these reasons, and to comply with the National Forest Management Act, we are revising the 1984 Plan to result in:

  1. The Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands Land Management Plan (Grasslands Plan). This will be the first stand-alone management plan for the Grasslands.
  2. The Pike and San Isabel National Forests Land Management Plan.

The USDA Forest Service announces the release of the final 2008 Planning Rule, published in the Federal Register on April 21, 2008More...

With the release of the 2008 Planning Rule, we have resumed our two previously-initiated land management plan revision projects for the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (Grasslands Plan) and for the Pike and San Isabel National Forests (Forests Plan). Planning actions under the 2005 Planning Rule conform to the 2008 Planning Rule. On this Web site you can find materials associated with both plans, including the previously-released versions of the Grasslands Plan, assessments, reports, maps, responses to public comments, and schedules.

The Pike and San Isabel National Forests (Forests) and the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (Grasslands) on-going planning processes have relied on open collaboration with public, partners and stakeholders.  The interaction with these people and groups has enhanced and informed both planning efforts.  We expect to smoothly transition our current Grasslands and Forests planning processes to conform with the 2008 Planning Rule.  We are looking forward to continued collaboration with everyone interested in helping develop both of these plans.
