This is a special and wonderful place to visit throughout the year. There are campgrounds, hiking trails, scenic drives, historic places, and plenty of space to just sit back and relax. Whether you stay for a while or just pass through, we hope you will enjoy your National Forest and all it has to offer. |

Hiker / Visitor Alerts and Current Conditions
The Saco Ranger District is currently replacing a bridge on the Sawyer Pond Trail. This is the second bridge from the trailhead on Sawyer River Road that spans an unnamed brook. Hikers should be aware that this will create the need for a stream crossing to complete the hike to Sawyer Pond. Work should be completed by September 12. Always be responsible and assess the hazards and your risks before entering any section of water.
Hikers and backpackers in the Great Gulf Wilderness should be aware that three bear incidents have been reported in the last two weeks, two of them at The Bluff designated campsite near the junction of Great Gulf Trail and Osgood Cutoff. Be sure you know, understand, and practice safe food storage at all times. Please report any bear incidents to the nearest Ranger Station.
