NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today eight additional counties are eligible for the Individual Assistance program. Now more homeowners, renters and businesses can receive assistance to help recover from the tornadoes of February 5-6.

The original disaster declaration of February 7 is now amended to include Benton, Hickman, Houston, Lewis, Montgomery, Perry, Trousdale and Williamson counties. The residents of the previously designated counties of Hardin, Macon, Madison, Shelby and Sumner remain eligible for this program.

Individuals can register by calling (800) 621-FEMA (3362) or TTY (800) 462-7585 for those who are hearing- or speech-impaired. Individuals can also register online at www.fema.gov. FEMA operators are available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST seven days a week, until further notice.

The FEMA Individual Assistance program can help eligible applicants with temporary housing assistance, uninsured personal property and medical, dental, and funeral expenses caused by the disaster, and other serious unmet needs.

Low-interest disaster loans from SBA are available to homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes. SBA representatives are at all Disaster Recovery Centers to meet individually with each resident or business owner to answer questions, issue applications, help them complete their disaster loan application and accept their completed applications. Anyone not able to visit a center should call SBA at (800) 659-2955 or visit www.sba.gov.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
