Seginak of Patuxent's Southeast Research Group Works with Univ. of GA Wildlife Staff to Capture Whitetail Deer

John Seginak of the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center's Southeast Research Group worked with the University of Georgia's wildlife staff personnel to capture whitetail deer using drop nets, deer hounds, and deer drives on March 14. Mr Seginak used his extensive knowledge of white-tailed deer to assure mission success in this exemplary state-Federal partnership.

USGS Patuxent's George Gee Travels to Nebraska to be Guest Speaker at Platte River Whooping Crane Maintenance Trust Meeting

Dr George Gee will be traveling to Grand Island Nebraska as a guest speaker at the Platte River Whooping Crane Maintenance Trust, Inc. in Wood River, Nebraska. Dr Gee will present two talks: "Perspectives on the Whooping Crane Program" and "Perspectives on the Whooping Crane Research Program" during the course of the meeting to be held on March 21-23.

Meyers to Represent USGS Patuxent in Several Capacities in Coming Weeks

Joe Meyers of Patuxent's Southeast Research Group will represent the USGS in a number of capacities within the next few weeks. He will participate as a faculty judge in the Warnell School of Forest Resources Graduate Student Symposium in March; judge projects at the Georgia State Science Fair on April 5th (as USGS scientist and UGA faculty) and represent the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forest Resources in the awards program on April 7th; participate on a Migratory Bird Banding Advisory Committee at the request of Georgia DNR's Wildlife Resources Division; and will be interviewed by Charles Seabrook of the Atlanta Journal Constitution regarding migratory songbird research in Georgia, for a 4-6 part series in the newspaper in early May.

Seginak Presents Deer Management Lecture at Univ. of GA Wildlife Techniques Class

John Seginak of the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center's Southeast Research Group made a teaching presentation to a Wildlife Techniques class at the University of Georgia's School of Forestry. The lecture, presented 28 February - 1 March included discussions on deer management, antler scoring and measurement systems, habitat management, and radio telemetry theory, application, and techniques. John will repeat the lecture on 11-12 April.
