Program Description
South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC), Region 5, consist of eight counties. The counties include: Aiken, Allendale, Barnwell, Bamberg, Calhoun, and Orangeburg. SC Edisto Savannah Medical Reserve Corps function is to bring/recruit volunteers from the medical, non-medical, and healthcare professionals together to serve our communities by augmenting local Emergency First Responders in time of natural, man-made disasters, and terrorist attacks. SC Edisto Savannah MRC Unit was established on March 1, 2007, and our activities consist of providing classroom and hands-on training to volunteers – i.e. mock, tabletop exercises and drills; developing a plan; attending trainings/conferences with Regional and State Coordinators; meeting with other established MRC Coordinators, and establishing an MRC advisory committee. Our primary goal is to recruit volunteers who will assist and augment local communities emergency responders during the time of a public health emergency.
