The Pee Dee Medical Reserve Corps, a part of DHEC - Region 4 Emergency Preparedness Division, is being developed to help Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Kershaw, Lee, Marion, Marlboro and Sumter counties, a heavily populated region in South Carolina. Pee Dee MRC deals with local emergency response in a local disaster, including assisting mass prophylaxis/vaccination clinics or other major public health needs. The unit is not partnered yet, but is working on partnering with the CERT, VOAD, County mental health services, and other County resources to develop a coordinated response to a disaster. It is limiting recruitment to licensed health and medical personnel, including nurses, nurse practitioners, veterinarians, pharmacists, doctors, chiropractors, physician assistants, and dentists, EMS, physical and respiratory therapists and other community resources in the county. This unit is recruiting members for its MRC by making presentations and/or mailing brochures and invitational letters to all medical professionals in it's 10 counties, attending Citizen Corps meetings, meetings of professional organizations, and through media advertising. The unit has 165 volunteers and has developed a curriculum based on the suggested MRC core competencies. These MRC volunteers will be included in exercises once their training has been completed. We encourage all prospective volunteers to register with the MRC by going to http://www.scserv.gov. Please contact the Pee Dee MRC Coordinator shown in this listing for further information or assistance. |
